Installation THE BEST OF - Project

Everything created in Contemporary Art, be it in the Theater, cinema, video, pictorial art, music, literature, photography, and interactive art can be regarded as a remake, as a global remix.
The idea of the project is to convey my own personal "résumé" on what has been created in both different and artistic areas - from Primitive cave - drawings right up to the photoshop - using new communicative tools, in order to render this classical and modern set-up more interesting for people living in the 21st century.
The aim of my project is to review the collective cultural memory accumulated by the human-being; as this " memory " constitutes the foundation, the basis for the new generation's art.

The artistic types encompassed in this project are:
Plastic Art - from Primitive right up to modern artist's works.
Architecture - the most important architectural masterpieces
(The Egyptian Pyramids, The Tower of Babylon, The St. Basil's church, etc. )
Theater & Cinema - Actors.
Music - Singers, composers, groups
Literature - Writers and poets.

The installation consists of two sculptures - man and woman - Yin and Yang
( h: 2m, L: 3m, l: 3m ).

They are comfortably seated, opposite each other, and separated by a two-sided, large electronic video screen.
Each is looking at his own screen and television.
The screen is a window, a mirror, a frontier that defines the scope of the two human-beings : man and woman.

The screen is an important element of this installation by its inescapable role in life today, without which modern man cannot surpass, as it is the most accessible and simplest way to "be informed".

The two characters are covered with "tattoo" like paintings; these being fragments of masterpieces from all epochs and horizons ( Egyptian art, Antique Greek, Mayan and Latin-American, Occidental, the Renaissance, Russian Icons, Japanese engravings, African Primitive, Australian Aboriginal and Modern Art)

These fragments also represent architectural works, portraits or photos of famous actors, singers and writers
100 fragments of works of art, that is to say, a composition of 50 " tattoos ", interlaced like a nest of serpents, on each sculpture.
Each fragment is composed of an interactive button that enables spectators to see the total image of the work of art concerned, for fifteen seconds, on the large screen.

Thus, the spectators are involved in a game that leads them across the world's history of all artistic expression.

And, when the visitor doesn't wish to intervene on the sculptures, the installation's own function, projects ( by a continuous video clip ) with regard to the process of the creation of the sculptures' "tattoos", embellished by a symbolic ballet interpreted by a couple of dancers.

To complement the Installation a musical tape is permanently played - composed of and inspired by - remixed classical music and well-known contemporary tunes.

To complete this set-up, a work that recaptures the fragmentation onto each left-hand page of a book ; the original work, including its historical reference, is reproduced on the right-hand side. The dialectic link between Yin & Yang will be explained within The book's structure that, will consist of two volumes, masculine & feminine, bound under the same cover.

A video clip will enable the making of the interactive set-up, and will be used on the website.

An internet site - by the interactive nature of this media - will permit the outlining of the most important features of our cultural heritage.

One would be able to watch a film utilising the same procedure of interactive buttons, and with the mouse, open up the complete works of art with detailed information concerning the artists, architects, actors and musicians.

And, as the Internet is rapidly developing, more and more people in the world are becoming potential audiences of this project.

Our wish is to continue developing this procedure in other future installations:

- "Museums of the world"- a composition of sculpted characters representing the Major collections from various important museums;
- "Russians artists" - the characters sculpted would represent fragments from Russian art masterpieces, from Icons to contemporary art;
- "French art"
- "Animated films"
- etc...
